Thank you for being a partner in the fight to end homelessness! You are making Cincinnati a kinder and more equitable community.

Nearly 5 million Americans lose their homes through eviction and foreclosure every year.

And millions more deal with threats of housing loss. Here in Cincinnati, more than 12,500 families faced eviction last year and more than 750 last month alone.

Women, people of color, and families with children are at especially high risk for eviction. Sadly, the further a family descends into homelessness, the more trauma they experience. And the more expensive interventions to help become.

When families are stable, both the family and our community experience increased stability. Parents can maintain employment near home. Neighborhoods have a reliable workforce. And children have stability in their education. Avoiding what studies show to be the long-lasting effects of childhood housing instability.

Many states instituted an Eviction Moratorium at the start of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Essentially forbidding the courts from performing evictions due to non-payment of rent. Unfortunately, Ohio, did not.

Today many states across the U.S. are trying to enact “Good Cause” laws to make it more difficult for landlords to evict their tenants.

The CARES Act passed in March 2020 to provide funding to assist renters.

It’s an honor to do our part to ensure that this life-changing funding keeps families stably housed.

Last month, the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners voted to approve $2M in homelessness prevention funding from the American Rescue Plan Act be granted to Strategies to End Homelessness.

Working closely with the Board, we will disburse the funding as grants to local nonprofits whose mission it is to keep families and individuals from experiencing homelessness.

The County is looking for new and innovative ways to improve housing security and prevent homelessness. The grant application will open later this month on our website.
