Woman presenting about RentConnect. People in chairs watching.

In August we held our RentConnect Launch event. The purpose of the event was to inform property owners and property managers about RentConnect. And why they should get involved.

What is RentConnect?

RentConnect, our newest program, seeks to increase the number of property owners and managers who make units available for rent to homeless and at-risk households. This was formerly called the Property Owner Engagement Program.

Also, RentConnect provides incentives to property owners and managers to increase the availability of affordable rental units. Strategies to End Homelessness and our non-profit housing partners started RentConnect in 2023. During the previous 3 years, rents skyrocketed in the Cincinnati metro area. And it became very difficult to find affordable rental housing for formerly homeless households.

RentConnect Launch Event

At the launch event, we provided property owners and managers with an overview of the RentConnect program. And outlined the benefits to property owners of joining of the partnership. We highlighted shared benefits for property owner, program participants, and the broader community. Because when people are housed, our community is healthier, stronger, and safer.

The event showed how making affordable rentals available to households experiencing homelessness can play a role in ending homelessness. And that there is a ready pool of qualified and supported potential renters to fill their units.

Over 60 property owners and managers were reached because of the launch event. Before the event we had connections with approximately 60 property owners and managers. Therefore this event has the potential to greatly increase the number of affordable housing units available to formerly homeless or at-risk households.

Additionally, there were giveaways at the event. Including LED lightbulbs, smoke detectors and a chance to win a $500 Home Depot gift card.

Advantages of Joining RentConnect

The benefits of joining RentConnect for property owners and managers are:

  • Financial incentives include reliable rent payments, lease signing and referral bonuses, and holding fees. Additional support funds for incidentals not covered by security deposit. And prioritization for City matching grant programs also available.
  • Use of Padmission. A free and easy-to-use marketing platform. Funding for Padmission generously provided by Anthem.
  • Low vacancy rates. We always have participants looking for housing.
  • Property owner and manager support for issues.
  • Wraparound support services for all program participants. In order to achieve goals and maintain stability in housing.
  • Solution-focused forums among agencies and property owners and managers.
  • Eviction prevention via mediation resulting in fewer evictions through collaborative problem solving.
  • Tenant Education Classes for program participants.
  • Lastly, newsletters and weekly tips with updates and resources for property owners.

Finally, RentConnect’s goal is to increase available, safe housing options and move households more quickly into housing and off the streets. Thereby reducing the number of people experiencing homelessness in Cincinnati. Accordingly, by participating in the partnership, property owners and managers can play a vital role in ending homelessness. And get the return on investment they expect.
