Eviction Prevention Blog PostEviction Prevention services are targeted at helping people who still have housing. Such as renting an apartment, but who are at risk of losing that housing. Because they’re unable to stay up to date on rental payments. Possibly beginning a downward spiral that eventually would lead them to the street or a shelter.

Eviction Prevention Funding

The various federal stimulus packages passed by Congress in response to the COVID pandemic have provided communities, including Cincinnati/Hamilton County with unprecedented levels of funding.

The presence of this funding, as well as various eviction moratoria, are the most popular explanation for fewer people losing their housing. And becoming doubled-up. Later resulting in the 14% decline in the number of people on the streets and in shelter. Here in Hamilton County that we have seen over the past two years.

Data Analytics

For decades there has been little data to empirically determine the effectiveness of Eviction Prevention services. There has never been an effective way to use data to determine how many people provided with such services later do or do not become homeless.

Throughout 2020 and 2021, Strategies to End Homelessness has been working to form partnerships that will help us verify the effectiveness of these services in preventing later homelessness.

And allow an analysis of Eviction Prevention services so that they can be targeted toward those households at greatest risk of homelessness.

Partners in Eviction Prevention

In partnership with Hamilton County Job & Family Services, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and Talbert House, Strategies to End Homelessness is changing this history.

Beginning in February 2022 Strategies to End Homelessness is now receiving data from the partners mentioned above.

We will be using our data analytics capacity to determine the effectiveness of Eviction Prevention services. And determine what type and level of services have the greatest effect.

Helping to define how Eviction Prevention services can be provided most effectively going forward.
